PABLO NOUVELLE | September 2013

Raised in Bern, Fabio Friedli abandoned his undergraduate studies in architecture to pursue his passion for music and art in 2006. Heavily inspired by French architect Jean Nouvel and the Nouvelle Vague films of the 60’s, Friedli created his alter ego, Pablo Nouvelle, and has yet to look back.

Describing his sound as a mix of melancholic pop, modern soul and dance music, Pablo Nouvelle first entered the world of music producing hip hop beats. His love for hip hop eventually led him to discover the soul music of the 60’s and 70’s, which opened a whole world of new inspiration.

Pablo Nouvelle released his self-titled debut album in May 2013 – an artfully crafted ten track record suffused with a deep and soulful atmosphere which threads throughout its entirety, expressing an impressive yet simple approach to mood and organic instrumentation. His awaited debut builds on the remarkable success of his previously released singles «You Do Me Wrong», «One More Chance» and «Is It Ok» which enjoyed airtime from both Lauren Laverne (BBC 6 Music) and John Kennedy (XFM) and let Song Writing Magazine to declare him «a songwriter of real promise». Even The Guardian announced him as «New band of the day», writing that he «takes soul back to the future».

As a student of animation at Lucerne’s Art School, Friedli’s graduation film «Bon Voyage» won several awards at global film festivals. On top of working on his music, he has recently finished his first short film since graduating, which is to be released later this year.

At the Music Apartment showcase, Pablo Nouvelle will perform with his current live trio, consisting of himself [Keys, Sampler], Simon Borer [Guitar, Bass, Vocals] and Mario Hänni [Drums, Vocals].
